Mary as the mother of vocation grapples one most important event in history. This event happened during the Annunciation. Mary told to the Angel Gabriel, “Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord; let it be done to me according to your word.” Through the yes pronouncement of Mother Mary, she became the patroness of every priest and religious. She constituted herself as a mother of God. Her acceptance of God’s invitation to become Her Mother made her the mother of all vocations to the priesthood and religious life. We shall discern that Mary accept to conceive Jesus Christ. She brought into the world the one from whom every vocation is derived. We tackle now that Mary Mother of Vocations because she is the Mother of the Great High Priest. Our Lord Jesus on His behalf shares his priesthood by calling his people to follow on His footsteps.
Furthermore, Mother Mary gives us her practice of faith, charity and Love. We dare to imitate her. Faith is a matter of believing and needless to say if those who don’t believe have the vocation. Thus only believers have a vocation (in Christian faith). It is only those who trust in God and of his call. By her love, she accepted the task that is given by God. Because of love she was able to say yes to the Lord. She contextualized this love by charity. She let herself available to God and to her fellow human beings. In all of these she became the model of all Christian vocations.
Finally, we reflect on the wedding happened in the town of Cana in Galilee. Jesus’ mother and his disciples were invited to the wedding. “When the wine was gone, Jesus’ mother said to him, “They have no more wine.” “Woman, why do you involve me?” Jesus replied. “My hour has not yet come.” His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.” Thus, Mary is the mother of vocation because of her intercession at the throne of God. It is through her maternal prayers that Jesus Christ gives grace to his people. She became the mediator between God and Human beings.
Indeed we ask Mother Mary’s help to have effective response to our each vocation. We beg her intercession to have perseverance on our given vocation.
Mary our Mother of vocation, Pray for Us.
